If you are interested in music lessons for yourself or your child, you have come to the right place! My name is Ryan Neaveill (last name rhymes with “level”), and I have been performing, composing and teaching music to kids and adults of all ages for over thirty years. I teach piano lessons, guitar lessons, voice lessons as well as songwriting/composition. I am located on the west side of Champaign, Illinois, and I am one of the few private music instructors in this community that makes a living solely from music instruction—and that is because I am exceedingly good at teaching music!

If you are a prospective music student, here are the initial steps to take in order to begin music lessons with me:

  1. Read through both my ATTENDANCE POLICY and TUITION/PAYMENT POLICY and, if my terms are acceptable to you, determine what tuition payment plan works best for you.
  2. View my SCHEDULE to see if there is an available day/time that suits you for a weekly lesson.
  3. Send me an email at (or use the form on my CONTACT page) and tell me your name, age, what you wish to study, any previous lessons/experience you've had, what length of weekly lesson you'd like (30 or 60 minutes), and what day/time on my schedule works for you. I will reply as soon as I am able.
  4. View my LOCATION page which has a map and directions to help you find your way to my studio.
  5. At your first lesson, bring your tuition payment (if you haven't already used my ONLINE PAYMENT page to pay it) as well as signed copies of both my ATTENDANCE and TUITION/PAYMENT policies (printable versions are available at the top of the respective webpages). You may also wish to bring a notebook to take notes during your lesson. I will provide all the lesson materials/books.

After receiving my bachelors degree in music composition and theory in 1989 from Illinois Wesleyan University (Bloomington, Illinois) where I majored in piano and minored in voice, I taught piano and voice lessons for five years at the Morton Academy of Music in Morton, Illinois.

In 1994, I moved to Champaign and have been composing and teaching music in this community ever since. Over the past three decades, I have pretty much “done it all” musically, having performed with many diverse groups from orchestras to jazz ensembles to concert bands to rock bands to music theater troupes to acapella singing groups to playing gigs in piano bars! I have adjudicated state music contests for the Illinois High School Association (IHSA), served on the board of directors of the Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA), conducted and directed numerous church music programs and have done masters level work at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois, in the area of music ministry.

I’ve held membership in many professional music organizations over the years including the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), The Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts, and even in the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers!

I am also a published and award-winning composer and a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).

So, if you would like to take piano, voice or guitar lessons with me; or if you are an aspiring songwriter and want to learn how to better your craft, take a look around my website here and then send me a message. Thanks for visiting!
